Maxillary labial frenum and malocclusion: An overriding or an overlooked tissue?

The influence of the maxillary labial frenum in relation to midline diastema has been a proven fact clinicians for many years. A pilot study was carried out investigate relationship between low attachment and skeletal malocclusions (class I, II, III). Astonishingly, it observed that class III malocclusion had statistically high number cases with attachments. objective understand underlying dysplasia these cases. comparative cross-sectional performed on 300 consecutive subjects 13-30-years age. Based cephalometric parameters participants were categorized into 98 102 100 subjects. Variations clinically evaluated using Placek classification. insertion level width also measured by caliper data analyzed determining association malocclusion. prevalence found be 64%. Also, mean significantly closer gingival margin compared other groups (p<0.01). identified tendency towards retruded maxilla terms linear dimension. Therefore present supports hypotheses Class may associated attachment.
